Wedding photography allows you to travel back in time to one of the most significant moments of your life. Imagine re-living those moments years after the big day, refreshing your memories and emotions. There are so many things happening during an actual wedding day (trust us, time really does fly during the day itself!), and photographers do their best to capture the meaningful scenes - the little details and the grand setups - so you will always have an enduring story to tell of your special day.
Wedding photography is all about capturing the details of the preparation, the lead up to the significant moment of the ceremony, the emotions on your friends and family's faces, the joy of your guests, family and partner as the day unfolds. That is something we think deserve the utmost importance, and not something we'll be willing to leave to chance! So here are some tips to help you get it right!
Find the right photographer
This is definitely the most important step of all! You need to find a wedding photographer who is able to curate your moments as they unfold through the day in the style that you love - someone whose photos speak to you and you can communicate well with. Make sure to meet up with them before engaging them so you can learn more about their working style and manage expectations.
Discuss shots that you want in advance
Even the perfect photographer might not be able to read your mind 100%, so if you have specific requests of moments that you want captured, do give your photographer some heads up! Send them inspirations for poses, suggestions of any props you want to use or mood boards of your actual day set ups so both of you are on the same page.
Have a friend/family member work with the photographer
While most professional photographers know how to navigate their way around a wedding, it would be really helpful there is an assigned friend or family member who could help coordinate with relatives to ensure no important people are left out of group photos, gather the crowds to the right places etc.
Have a wonderful wedding
Relax and have a ball of a time at your wedding. Once you are done the above three steps, you are set to just enjoy the moment and not have to worry about anything else. Leave the important task of capturing these moments for posterity to the experts.
An heirloom keepsake
And last but not least, make a keepsake of your wedding photographs so you, your children and grandchildren can flip through the pages and marvel at the people, the fashion and the incredible moments captured. It is just not the same when you view photos on the screen or your mobile. Seeing it on paper, being able to touch it and share it - it is just magical.
And here's some helpful tips on how to select your favorite photos for the keepsake.
I hope that this has been helpful to help you decide if you should invest in your once-in-a-lifetime wedding photography.
